Bioretention Basins, Swales and Trenches are a type of Sustainable Urban Drainage System (SuDS) designed to receive water from frequent rainfall events. The rain water is directed into the Bioretention feature, where it is cleaned as it drains through the engineered Bioretention Soil. Excess water is ideally allowed to infiltrate into native soils and if needed will be directed to the local drainage infrastructure. Bio Retention systems also contribute positively to biodiversity by providing quality habitat for wildlife.
