SUDS SOILS

A RANGE OF SOILS DESIGNED TO INTERCEPT RAIN WATER AND HELP MANAGE SURFACE WATER
Since the launch of the CIRIA SuDS Manual 2015, we have seen a significant increase for the requirement of soils for Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems (SuDS), which are now a feature of most new landscaping projects and are being incorporated into many existing green spaces and urban streetspaces.

Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems are a sequence of planted and constructed features designed to slow down rainwater run-off and treat pollution through the use of engineered soils and vegetation. These types of SuDS features also positively affect local biodiversity by providing quality habitat for wildlife. There are many different types of landscaping SuDS features, some of which are Rain Gardens, Bioretention Basins, Swales (or trenches), Treepits, High Permeability Lawns and Green Roofs.
